Our Domestic Violence Assistance Program

Our Domestic Violence Assistance program provides emergency shelter and supportive services for to any and all victims/survivors, their children and family members regardless of gender, age, race/ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or other cultural identities. Our services to be funded include the following

Emergency Shelter

We provide emergency housing to adult victims of domestic violence and their dependent children. Because our services must be available to many people who are unsafe in their present living situation, each resident is given a 35 day stay. However, some stay longer depending on their individual situation.

Families and individuals have their own room and are rarely required to share a room. There are several common areas in the shelter including the living room, kitchen/dining area, and the playroom. Safe House Center provides three meals per day, toiletries, and other daily essentials such as diapers and laundry detergent.

Advocacy

Each resident is assigned to an advocate when they enter shelter. Advocates provide help with attaining goals, referrals to other agencies and services, and individual crisis support. Residents and their children are provided with several opportunities to attend support groups and other special activities throughout their stay.

We have a children’s advocate who works with the children and youth in our facility and helps the children process through their own trauma from being abused or witnessing abuse. Our advocates are mobile. They can meet any individual in need where it is safest and most convenient for them to meet.

Our Prevention Program Provides

We believe that prevention isn’t about stopping violence before it occurs to one individual, it’s about changing the systems and social norms that allow violence to continue to be perpetuated toward so many people. In this regard, we work to create a world free of intimate partner violence, where every individual and community can experience safe and healthy relationships.
